The Lady Mayor’s Show is the oldest civic procession in the world, and one of the most colourful events in our calendar. It dates back over 800 years. At its centre, the newly elected Lord or Lady Mayor journeys in the State Coach from the Mansion House to the Royal Courts of Justice and back. This year, the show celebrated the start of Lady Mayor Dame Susan Langley DBE’s year in office. She is the third woman to hold this role, and the first to take the title Lady Mayor.
Several members of the Glaziers’ Company took part in the show. The Master Glazier, John Reyntiens MBE, and the Clerk, Liz Wicksteed were part of a float organised by Court Assistant and philanthropist Azad Ayub, along with representatives of the charities he supports. The Master Elect, Tim McNally CC, is also Junior Warden of the Company of World Traders, and took part in that capacity. Court Assistant Mariana Cherry led a team from a range of Companies and Clubs, that formed part of a wider group of 697 women taking part to mark Dame Susan holding office as the 697th Mayor of the City of London. The Glaziers amongst them included Caroline Walsh, Miriam Marson, Andreea Pampu, and Julia Wilson. As always, it was an exuberant and joyful day, a showcase for the diversity, community, culture and history of London and its Livery Companies, and of the Armed Services to whom we all owe so much.
