About us
The written records of The Glaziers’ Company go back to the fourteenth century and recent research suggests that evidence of the existence of the Glaziers Company can be traced to written records dated 1364-5. Although this means Ashdown’s History may not be completely accurate about the Company’s origins the work contains much valuable information about our heritage and can be accessed here.
Taking the story a little further, the History of the Company from 1919 to 1999, recently digitised through the good offices of Past Master Phillida Shaw and Freeman David Whyman can be found here. For more information about the History of the Company, or to make enquiries of our Honorary Archivist, Colin Gregory, in the first instance please contact our Clerk.

Our Home – Glaziers’ Hall
The Company’s Hall is the only one south of the River. Located at the south end of London Bridge it is a former dockside warehouse dating from the early 19th century. The Company acquired it in the 1970s and it has been our home since then. The Hall is operated by Glaziers Hall Limited, a company of which we are the majority shareholder. The Hall provides an office for the Company’s Clerk as well as rooms for meetings of the Governing Body (the Court) and Committees, and for Company social and other events (such as lectures and awards ceremonies). For location details and a map visit the contact page.
When not required for Livery purposes the Hall may be hired for conferences, receptions and other events. Details are available here.
What we do
The Company today is active in three main areas.
Charity and Philanthropy
The Glaziers’ Charity is beginning a major fundraising campaign so that we can continue to support our existing charitable activities and develop new ways to support education in architectural glass art, design and conservation; and play a meaningful role in understanding our heritage through stained glass.
Community, Networking and Events
The Company today organises a special programme of social activities and visits for our members and guests. We also develop projects and community initiatives to showcase architectural glass art to members and non-members alike and to explore the opportunities for using architectural glass to create welcoming environments.

The Glazier Magazine
Our magazine The Glazier contains a range of articles about the Company and the wider world of stained glass. You can read the two latest editions using the buttons below.
MILITARY AFFILIATIONS
Like many Livery Company we have formed links with a number of military units covering all three Services.
Our Naval affiliation is with the Type 23 Frigate HMS Kent, then one of the newest of her type launched in 1998. We have enjoyed a number of visits to the ship, and representatives from HMS Kent are invited to Glaziers’ events. We have established an an annual award which goes to the member of the ship’s company chosen as Sailor of the Year.
Our adopted unit is from the Army Cadet Force, and reflects the fact that our hall is in the South-East London postal district. The South East London ACF is based in Blackheath. Visits to their HQ and annual camp have been a regular feature, and we have long-established annual awards for both cadets and adult instructors.
Our most recent affiliation is with 611 Squadron of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force based at RAF Woodvale, Merseyside.
