How to Join Us

Membership is open to everyone of any nationality with an interest in stained glass. There are two classes of membership: Freeman and Liveryman. New members join as Freemen and may after a time apply to become Liverymen. Following the easing of COVID restrictions admissions will now normally be conducted at the Hall rather than virtually. Anyone for whom this would cause difficulties (for example those resident overseas) should contact the Clerk.

Our application form asks applicants to name two existing members of the Company to sponsor their application, one of whom must be a member of the Governing body, the Court. Applicants who do not know a member of the Company should not let this deter them from applying. The Company can arrange introductions.

There is a joining fee of £350 and an annual subscription of £480, but there are reductions and phased payment arrangements in certain cases:

  • For those whose livelihood comes from decorative and architectural glass (e.g. glass artists, conservators, curators) the joining fee is WAIVED and the annual subscription is REDUCED BY 50%. From 1 December 2025 the 50% reduction will be available only to those aged under 30. The reduction for artist members aged 30 or over will be 25%.
  • Those over 75 can request a 50% reduction in the annual fee. From 1 December the qualifying age will rise to 80 and the reduction in the annual fee will be 25%.
  • Those living overseas benefit from a 50% reduction in the annual fee.
  • Those aged 40 or under also benefit from a 50% reduction in the annual fee and may spread the initial joining fee over the first two years of membership. From 1 December the reduction will be available only for those aged under 30.
