The annual Sheep Drive, hosted by the Worshipful Company of Woolmen, is one of the most enjoyable and popular events in the Livery calendar.
It offers Freemen of the City of London the memorable opportunity to exercise their historic right to drive sheep across a City bridge — a tradition dating back to the days when Freemen could bring livestock to market without paying a toll.
🎓 Calling our recently admitted Freemen
We particularly encourage Glaziers who have recently received the Freedom of the City to take part.
Whether this would be your first Sheep Drive or an opportunity you have been looking forward to for some time, it promises to be a very special way to celebrate your Freedom and take part in one of the City’s most distinctive traditions.
Friends and family are also very welcome to come along, support the participants and enjoy the day.
🍽️ Lunch and fellowship
We will begin with lunch at the historic Boot & Flogger, offering members and guests an opportunity to meet, relax and enjoy some Glaziers’ fellowship before heading to Southwark Bridge for the Sheep Drive.
🎪 Explore the Livery Fair
The Sheep Drive will be accompanied by a lively Livery Fair featuring:
🐑 Displays celebrating sheep, wool and traditional crafts
🛍️ Livery Companies demonstrating their trades
🍴 Artisan food and drink stalls
🎨 Specialist crafts, products and charity stands
With Southwark Bridge closed to traffic for the event, the day promises to be a wonderful celebration of the City, its ancient customs and its Livery Companies.
