The Stained Glass Repository rescues stained glass from churches that are being closed or repurposed, and holds them in its repository until they can be relocated to a new space, where they can be enjoyed once again.

Stained glass offered to the Repository is assessed for its artistic merit, historic
interest, state of repair and general condition before being accepted into the
Repository’s care. It is then photographed and catalogued, with details of the artist, subject-matter, church/diocese of origin, size and condition etc. and placed on our website.

Windows have been relocated to buildings throughout the United Kingdom as well as to a number of overseas churches. In all cases the suitability of the building is assessed, along with any alterations that are required in order for a window to fit into its new home. All the work needs to be completed by an approved glazier.

We are unable to pay for the glass we acquire and correspondingly we do not charge the new owners, although many of those have shown their gratitude with generous donations, which are very welcome and used to defray administrative costs.

Initial enquiries should be directed to either the Secretary of the Repository or to the Glaziers’ Company (details on the Repository’s Contact Us page).

Below is a recent example of how two stained glass windows taken from the
Repository have transformed a plain window into a gloriously colourful and moving window, that is a fitting memorial to past parishioners.
